They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

What is blastwave.org you might be asking?
Blastwave is a collective effort to create a set of binary packages of free software, that can be automatically installed on a computer running the Solaris operating environment. Unless you're into computer operating systems, like Linux, Mac OS X, or to a far lesser degree M$ Windows, you've mostly likely never heard of it. Don't worry i won't hold it against you, hehehe.
I am currently the maintainer of 10 packages for the blastwave community, 2 of which are currently in the testing repository. I became a maintainer because i was looking for a reliable software deployment method for the solaris systems that i maintain at work. I was sick of building a ton of packages and manually installing them on a bunch of servers. While other communities exist which build and maintain packages for solaris they are missing one big feature in my mind, the ability to remotely deploy said software and this is where blastwave stands out. The packages that i maintain are usually those which are need to make my life and the users i support lives a little easier at work. So if your looking to try out something a little different head on over to the Solaris download page and pull down the CD images. Once you've installed solaris see the Blastwave HOW-TO and you'll be well on your way to running one of the most advanced operating systems on the planet. And by the way, i don't recommend doing this on your primary computer because when something gets FUBAR'd i might not be able to help you out. later, darin
