great climbing this weekend!

a few of us took advantage of this weekends great weather and got in alot of rock time, it was sooo nice to get onto real rock for a change! after the rain friday and the expected rain into saturday morning jeff and i kind of concluded that the weather wasn't going to cooperate for trad climbing at buffalo crag on saturday. around 10am saturday jeff calls cuz it's starting to clear up a bit and thinks we should head up. i can see toronto from my house and it looks grey but what the hell, it's not like i have anything else to do.

we arrive at rattlesnake after an uneventful drive around noon. it's a little grey outside but the sun keeps peeking out to say hey, not to mention it's a little brisk! we gear up and hit a nice little warm up to the left of #10, to the right of the memorial plague. jeff stickes the route while i follow an clean, all and all it's a good warm up. we cruz down the 4th class, pack up and head down to buffalo crag.

buffalo crag is about a 20 minute hike north from rattlesnake. we pass a group setting up some rapple stations who all look really cold! we both think it's nice out, i guess they've spent to much time in front of the tv or the warmth of the climbing gyn this winter. there are a few parties at buffalo so we find another easy line which goes up like nothing. we drop a TR and rap down. the TR has some challenging lines which we play around on for a while. it's getting late and all the other parties have left the area so we pack up and hike back to the parking lot which was full when we arrived.

we meet john out at the old pink for drinks that evening. someone must have show timed because the pink smelled of vomit, which isn't much worse then it's usual smell hahaha. went down to the hardware bar and saw on of the eric's from the gym, i forget his last name. seeing that we plan on bouldering at the glen sunday we don't stay late.

we headed up to the glen later in the afternoon, jeff was picking up floria at the airport early. i gave john a call but he was already in the glen, how nice of him to call! gave kevin a call and he was definetly in, which is cool since we haven't climbed since we went to angel falls last month. we meet with like half the locals from the gym who had been there most of the day. worked and climbed a few problems when them then deciede do move on as they where getting ready to bolt for the day. i worked some easier problems and they hit up this problem that kevin's been working for a while. it's this cool looking sandstone rock down near the river. kevin's sends it his second attempt which is killer. it's fun problem but i'll need to grab it next time, my hands where killing me.

needless to say i was pretty wrecked that evening and was falling asleep around 9pm. this is a fitting beginning to the rock season seeing that the ice season was crap.

later,
darin
