Rainier/Hood Gear List

The recommended gear list for our mt. rainier and mt. hood trip, don't get left out in the cold! this is a list gear that "YOU" should probably have for yourself!

personal gear:

  • backpack: 5000 cu,in or larger
  • sleeping bag: 0-20 degrees
  • sleeping pad
  • trekking poles
  • cup/bowl/spoons
  • head torch w/ extra batteries
  • sunscreen and lip-balm with SPF rating
  • 2 nalgene bottles
  • glacier goggles
  • knife or multi-tool
  • lighter
  • map/compass
  • whistle or signaling mirror

clothing (which will get really smelly):

  • 2 light weight underwear tops
  • 1 light weight underwear bottom
  • 2 pair hiking socks
  • softshell pants and jacket
  • gore-tex jacket and pants
  • double plastic boots
  • gaiters
  • down/synthetic jacket
  • 2 or 3 pair of liner gloves
  • shell gloves
  • warm hat
  • sun hat

climbing gear:

  • mountain axe
  • crampons
  • climbing harness
  • climbing helmet
  • trekking poles
  • 1 24 inch snow picket
  • 1 ice screw
  • 2 large pear shaped beaners
  • 6 non-locking beaners
  • 2 x 6ft sections of 6mm climbing line
  • 1 x 12ft section of 6mm climbing line

group gear:

  • 2 stoves, 4 fuel canisters
  • 2 4 season tents
  • 1 60 meter climbing rope
  • snow shovel
  • first aid kit
